ABOUT US
Anthony Brooks was born in Harlem, New York. The product of a one-parent household, Tony, as he is called, learned many lessons from his single mother, Jean A. Brooks. He discovered at an early age that she had to assume the role of both mother and father to him and his younger sister, Rhonda.
From Harlem, Tony?s mother moved the family to the Bronx, New York There he encountered gang wars among the races__ Italians from 187th St. and Blacks from the Twin Parks Project at 183rd St. But Tony?s mother had a strong influence on her children and taught them to never judge a person by his or her skin color or religious belief but rather to discern the intent of the heart.
At age 11, the family relocated again. This time they stayed in the Bronx but moved to another area of the borough. Though the location was different, the problems that Tony and his sister faced remained the same. Tony attended Adlai E. Stevenson High School in the Bronx and eventually won a basketball scholarship to Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina, the oldest historically black college in the South. While in college, Tony organized parties and enjoyed seeing people have a good time at his events. He soon realized that he was a people person and fashioned his life toward helping them in any way he could. This attribute he credits to his mother who always drummed in his head about respect for himself and for others, especially toward women.
Back home in New York, Tony held a number of jobs which equipped him with various skills. In the late eighties, he founded his own security firm, which provided services for some of New York City?s top event promoters. True to his nature, Tony was troubled by the fact that most of these promoters organized parties solely for financial gain and cared very little about the quality of the event or the treatment of their patrons. He decided to take matters in his own hands. Wanting to affect how people treated one another, Tony joined with three partners and together they started Gentlemen of Distinction Entertainment, Inc.
The name Gentlemen of Distinction was chosen to underscore the credo of its founders. They wanted to host elegant, upscale events where people would meet in a safe and controlled environment, a place where the guests would be catered to and made to feel special. As time went on, Tony?s partners separated to pursue other interests but Tony believed so much in the venture that they had started that he decided to continue and go it alone if he had to. Today, 14 years later, Gentlemen of Distinction is not only going strong but has since expanded its reach, adding weekend bus rides and vacation getaways to its list of offered events.
Most recently, Gentlemen of Distinction has proudly introduced Quality b4 Quantity personals, its new and totally free Internet personals service. Tony?s vision is to bring together people of different backgrounds, cultures and races to experience without judgment what life has to offer. It is his hope that his events and personals service will facilitate this. Tony?s dream for Gentlemen of Distinction is for it to become a household name and be known the world over for uniting people regardless of color or creed.regardless of color or creed.
